Crime Squad 3D Update

In a galaxy far far away… well actually just along the road a couple of years back… we shot a two minute silent short film just for fun inspired by a “Two Minute Silence” competition that Neil Rolland had set-up as part of his Write, Shoot, Cut platform in mid 2013. We had a laugh making it and really enjoyed working with Amanda Marment and Tamas Fazakas to get it done. Our aim was to create a 70’s looking cop show parody and overall the outcome was pretty good.

What interested me most though was the characters that Amanda and Tamas play – Dick Rize and Dawn Shine as they eventually became known: how did they get where they were, why would they want to be cops and what was their wider world like? From that inspiration Rhiannon and I decided to give it a go drafting several episodes that we could possibly produce as a 3D web series. At the same time as undertaking the writing challenge I was keen to move on from shooting with unibody 3d camcorders to shooting with a more advanced stereoscopic rig, which in itself would come to present quite a number of challenges and rather obviously slow us down from our usual run and gun style of shooting. That in itself is a whole other post!

The good news is the series has now (finally) completed post production and we had our cast and crew screening last week where we were finally able to share the fruits of nearly two years of effort – plus we could have a few beers and catch-up with everyone involved who’ve all become close friends. As writer/producer/director it’s difficult for me to be objective so I’m not going to tell you how great the series is – we’ll be sharing this online via The Stereoscopic 3D Channel from July 2015.

Big thanks is also owed to our sponsors NEO3DO and to everyone who supported us via Indigogo (complete list on our CS3D page here).

Crime Squad 3D Update October 2014

Hey readers – apologies it’s been a long while since the blog was updated however I’ve been focussing on writing my first feature length script which finally is complete – more of that to follow once I’ve had some time to breathe!

In the meantime the team is now going to be reconvening to complete the Crime Squad 3D edit – so far we have rough edits of about half the series and still have several shots to complete. Our original plans to complete the series early this year have obviously fallen by the wayside but we are now going to have a push to try and get something online by no later than the end of 2014 – it would be good to head into 2015 with the full series ready to roll out in glorious Super Stereo Vision.

In the meantime do keep in touch over on Facebook and we’ll keep you up to date as to how we’re finally doing!

Learn 3D Filmmaking in Scotland Summer 2014

We’re proud to announce that we’re running a Scotland’s first 3D filmmaking training course along with SKAMM in Edinburgh for 14 to 21 year olds this summer.

Going from the basics of  stereo 3D filming principles right through to the final edit and depth grading of a 3D short film this course will give attendees handon experience alongside a strong grounding of modern 3D stereoscopic film production.

The course runs from 21st to 25th of July at the Edinburgh College of Art. For more details email skammers@hotmail.com

Edinburgh 3D Film Festival – Get your tickets now

.

It’s been a few months of hectic planning but we’re finally live with our week long celebration of 3D Film – The Edinburgh 3D Film Festival 2014.

With that in mind if you want to see some great stereoscopic features or short films head over to the Filmhouse website now and get your tickets – it’s looking likely that these screening will be pretty busy.

Each screening will also feature related talks or question and answer sessions with visiting directors or stereographers.

Tickets are available at the usual Filmhouse Website.

Crime Squad 3D Season One – It’s a Wrap!

We finally finished the primary shoot for Crime Squad 3D Season One yesterday on a blustery and freezing cold Edinburgh morning. Amanda, Tamas and Magnus braved the gale force winds, mini sand storm on the beach and spattering of drizzle to deliver fantastic performances all round!

It’s been a long haul to shoot what should deliver six ten minute episodes and we owe a debt gratitude to all the cast, crew, backers and supporters who’ve helped us along the way. Thank you everyone for your help, this is only the beginning of the adventure and hope you can all stay with us as we launch and hopefully take this onto a bigger stage.

Our aim is to have the first full episode complete by Summer 2014 so do please follow us on Facebook where we’ll be posting all the latest news.

In the meantime why not check out the advert from the show we’ve created for NEO3DO the glasses free 3D Tablet. David from NEO3DO came onboard as a sponsor early on and has been really supportive of the show. So take it away Amanda and Tamas… or should I say Detective Rize and Shine?

Life in 3D Symposium

I’ll be speaking at this years “Life in 3D” Symposium in Edinburgh, so if you’re interested in learning a little more about stereo 3D do please come along to this free event.

Life in 3D’ is a 1-day symposium at the University of Edinburgh that brings together otherwise independent practitioners and academics currently working on 3D from technological and creative perspectives.

The 3D theme of this year’s symposium is stereo vision and surround sound. The event provides a unique opportunity to share knowledge and expertise, showcase work in progress and discuss how 3D is used in the industry and academia.

The symposium will run in parallel with the ‘Edinburgh 3D Film Festival‘ at the Edinburgh Filmhouse.
