The Stereoscopic Displays and Applications Virtual Library has three books relating to stereoscopic topics available for free to download from their site.

The books are:

• “Foundations of the Stereoscopic Cinema”
• “Three-Dimensional Photography”
• “The World of 3-D Movies”

Although the books do not necessarily cover state of the art subjects they are well worth  a read for some perspective on the history of the medium.
