Sources from the 3D World Magazine & Sony 3D competition have noted via their forum that around 50 entries were received for the 3d short film competition. Entries came from all over the globe, including  Japan, New Zealand, Canada, Mexico and the UK. The good news is, as there are over 50 prizes up for grabs, everyone should get some prize to reward their efforts.

The original plan was to announce the winner at this week’s SIGGRAPH and to showcase the winners there, however the sheer volume of entries has delayed this. Steve from 3D World via the forum said that he expected the winners to be announced once they get back from LA. With SIGGRAPH closing at the end of this week hopefully that means everyone who entered should be hearing in early August.

We’re incredibly pleased to announce that our Stereo 3D group over on Vimeo has hit the 1,000 videos mark. That’s a phenomenal number to have amassed in less than six months and is a testament to the surge of interest with amateur and professional film-makers alike that the resurgence of stereoscopic 3d film has had.

It’s great to see the group growing and it’s a humbling experience to regularly see such great work on the channel. If you’ve not visited it yet grab your 3d specs and come on over.

To celebrate the new of the 3D Alien Prequel we’ve pulled together a cool new 3d desktop for you Alien fans out there. Done in re cyan anaglyph format at 1920×1080. If you would prefer a different size do email us and let us know at 3d@enhanced-dimensions.com and we’ll make other sizes available.

As a continuing experiment with 2D to 3D conversion Enhanced Dimensions will be converting a series of B movie trailers over the coming weeks. The trailers have been created using footage that is listed as Public Domain and uses several techniques to convert standard 2d footage into 3d anaglyph videos.

Our first converted trailer is for the fantastic “Carnival of Souls” and can be seen over on our YouTube or Vimeo Stereoscopic 3D Channel right now!

For those of you who’ve been over to our Stereoscopic 3D TV Channel on Vimeo here’s a groovy little 3D Desktop on that very theme. We reckon it’s one of our best: reach out and touch the stars and the UFO as it floats right above your screen in glorious anaglyph 3D!
